Energy

The Energy Practice is the fastest growing practice area of ULC. With one of the premier, more experienced energy practices in the country, ULC is well-equipped to find creative solutions to complex energy matters. Our long-established relationships with leading energy producers, transporters, and marketers have led to an extensive practice involving counseling, litigating, and representing companies before the federal and provincial agencies.

Our attorneys negotiate and seek approval of contracts for wholesale power and transmission ventures, prepare documentation for developing financial joint generation and transmission ventures, represent utilities and litigate disputes before trial and appellate courts. We also provide corporate, commercial, and regulatory counsel to developers and investors in electric power projects and represent foreign clients and other parties in privatization initiatives.

Our Energy Transactions practice represents buyers, sellers, and marketers in almost every kind of wholesale power and energy transaction. Our clients include major energy producers, suppliers, domestic and international pipelines, holding companies, and quasi-governmental corporations.

The Energy Practice Group lawyers have deep experience in regulatory, commercial and litigation issues affecting the energy industry. Our clients include electric utilities, industrial energy consumers, power marketing firms, regional power pools, gas utilities and pipeline companies. We also represent other foreign and domestic companies engaged in the production, transmission or distribution of electric power.

Our practice focuses on representing national and international energy generators, utilities and renewable energy developers in all aspects of power project licensing, permitting, financing, construction and operations for regulated and unregulated enterprises.
